木で作られたこの椅子のアームには、複雑に重なりあう曲線がそれぞれに機能と意図を持ちながら混在しています。それはいくつものスケッチと図面、それをモデリングしながら検証することでたどり着いた、思い描いた機能を実現するための形です。
美しく使い心地の良いアームチェアを作りたいという欲求。それは沢山の名作椅子への憧れに始まった、自分が手にした技術や思想を信じて表現する挑戦のようなものでもありました。ベースとなるフレームは、パイプではなくロッド材を用いたことで、細くクラシカルなスタイルと弾性のあるしなやかな座り心地を実現しています。各部のパーツはジュラコン素材の脚端に至るまで一つ一つ設計。シート部では、熟練職人の協力によって張り地が美しく収められ椅子を動かすときに触れる指先でも丁寧に作られた物の魅力を感じられるようにデザインされています。
全てを同一素材で作るのとは違い、異素材で構成される椅子にはそれぞれの素材に選ばれている理由があるものです。私たちのアームチェアでも、笠木部分の素材は造形的にも手触りとしても、さらには制作の工程においてまで、木でなければならない理由が沢山ありました。削り出すことを想定して特殊な形に接合された木材から、鉋で寸分違わぬ形に削り出されていく形状。固い素材でありながら緻密に実現されたカーブの連続によって、シートバックはまるで柔らかなクッションに触れているかのように背は支え、おろした腕を自然と支えるようにレイアウトされたアーム部分へと無数の曲線を経て繋がっています。そしてこの複雑な形状は、磨き抜かれたモデラーの技術によって驚くほどのスピードで作り出されているのです。
求めた機能を実現するために選択した様々な要件と形状。それが結果として息を呑むほどの美しさを纏えるのであれば、真摯な工作が生み出すアームチェアとして自信を持ってリリースできると考えています。
The wooden armrests of this chair exhibit a complex blend of overlapping curves, each serving its own unique function and purpose. They embody a form that brings to life the envisioned functionality, which was conceived through a series of sketches, drawings, and validated through meticulous modeling.
The desire to create a chair that is both aesthetically pleasing and comfortable was accompanied by a personal challenge to express my belief in the skills and ideas I have acquired, inspired by my admiration for numerous masterpieces in the world of chairs. The base frame, crafted from rods instead of pipes, lends the chair a sleek and classical style, while providing a resilient and supple seating comfort. Each component is meticulously designed, right down to the leg ends made of DURACON material. In the seating section, skilled craftsmen have artfully arranged the upholstery, ensuring that even the slightest touch of fingertips while moving the chair conveys the charm of a meticulously crafted object.
Unlike chairs made entirely of a single material, chairs made from different materials are chosen for specific reasons. In the case of our armchair, there were numerous considerations that led to wood being selected as the material of choice for the back rail section, encompassing both form, texture, and even the production process. Pieces of wood are expertly joined together, forming a special shape that is intended to be cut and precisely hand-shaved afterward. Despite its hardness, the back rail provides support to the back as if it were embracing a soft cushion, connected through intricate curves to the arms, which are designed to naturally support lowered arms. These intricate shapes are crafted with astonishing speed by our highly trained craftsmen.
We hold ourselves to high standards in order to achieve the desired functionality. As a result, we proudly present an exquisitely beautiful armchair, showcasing the artistry of sincere craftsmanship.
